Yankees Stunner: Facing No-Hitter Through 7, Judge Walks Off 6-5 Comeback In 10
In their own version of the cardiac kids, the Yanks overcame a sure loss with a game-ending sacrifice fly and a nifty slide by Anthony Volpe in the 10th inning to beat the Mariners
All that Jazz. That’s all it took.
Brian Woo was pitching perfect no hit ball before the Bombers woke up and finished off their sweep of Seattle Thursday night.
It was high drama, with the Yankees facing a historic loss. Their three-run eighth inning began when Jazz Chisolm Jr. singled off Woo, breaking up the no-hitter.
The home Yankee crowd was already jacked when Aaron Judge walked it off with a sacrifice fly in the tenth and Anthony Volpe took off for home. The throw from centerfielder Julio Rodriguez beat him to the plate but his dive avoided the tag.
Judge was mobbed by his teammates after the stunning win.
He said he knew Volpe was at third, and his whole mindset was to get the ball in the air, the New York Post reported.
The historic nature of the win came from stats kept by Elias Sports Bureau: Since 1961, the Yankees became only the second team to win a hitless game after trailing through seven innings by at least five runs.
Pinch hitter Giancarlo Stanton went yard in the eighth inning with a two-run dinger.
It’s never too late until the last out, Stanton said after the game, The Post reported.
Stanton added that it was a big win for the team.
Marcus Stroman gave up just two runs over five innings. Devin Williams finished the Mariners off in the top of the tenth.
Could the Yankees be finally coming out of their slump?
At 52-41, they still trail the Blue Jays by two games.
Things don’t get any easier as they face the division leading Chicago Cubs today to begin a new 3-game home stand in the Bronx.
